Make a lasting difference. Join CAPSA.

CAPSA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual abuse, and rape recover and rebuild safe, independent lives. We are seeking a results-oriented, community-driven Development Director to help expand our donor base, business partnerships, and outreach efforts-fueling our mission to support survivors.

Position Overview

As CAPSA's Development Director, you will serve as a key external-facing leader responsible for building strong, measurable relationships that result in increased support and awareness. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a goal-oriented environment, is energized by connecting with people, and is ready to take ownership of outreach, donor growth, and community engagement. You'll report to the Chief Development Officer and collaborate with internal teams to increase CAPSA's visibility and funding.

Though we have many funding sources, including federal and state grants, business contributions, and foundation support, one of the goals for this coming year is to increase individual contributions from $400,000 to $600,000. The Development Director will be a critical driver in reaching this goal by strengthening donor engagement, converting one-time supporters into recurring donors, and growing overall community investment in our mission.

What You'll Do

  • Build, maintain, and grow high-impact relationships with individual donors, business leaders, and community partners. You'll be expected to regularly track and demonstrate progress with new and existing supporters.
  • Lead and execute strategic fundraising efforts, including making direct asks and ensuring systems are in place for timely, personal donor stewardship.
  • Utilize donor data from our CRM (Virtuous) to identify trends, create segmented outreach, and improve donor retention, especially by increasing the number of recurring donors and average annual giving per household.
  • Oversee development operations, including donor database use, reporting, and process improvements that support growth.
  • Supervise the Community Engagement Coordinator and work closely with the Marketing and Development Specialist to ensure outreach and fundraising are aligned.
  • Organize and execute donor cultivation events, community presentations, and business engagement opportunities.
  • Represent CAPSA confidently and effectively at meetings with community leaders, councils, civic groups, and partners.
  • Collaborate with CAPSA leadership to prepare materials and strategy for high-value donor meetings and public presentations.

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated ability to grow and manage professional relationships that result in tangible support or partnership. This could be in fundraising, business development, community engagement, or sales.
  • Proven success in making direct asks; whether for funding, partnerships, or sales; and the ability to tailor your message to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the confidence to lead trainings and speak on CAPSA's behalf to diverse groups.
  • You should be able to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously.
  • Leadership experience and a collaborative mindset. You enjoy working with and mentoring others in a team setting.
  • Experience with donor databases or CRM tools (Virtuous or similar) is a plus.
  • A passion for CAPSA's mission and a commitment to being a visible advocate for survivors in the community.

Why Work at CAPSA?

At CAPSA, you'll join a collaborative, mission-driven team dedicated to making a real impact in the lives of survivors. We offer a competitive salary, full benefits package (including health, dental, vision, PTO, holidays, and retirement), and meaningful opportunities for professional growth. Most importantly, you'll be part of an organization where your work truly matters-and where you'll be supported as you help support others.
